Let's Go trojans!

June 4th, 2020

To LJHS 8th Grade Parents & Students:

I want to begin by saying thank you to everyone for their continued patience through these highly unusual times. This is certainly not how any of us expected this year to conclude by any means. I am truly sorry that your child has had to go through this experience. Rest assured, however, that they are a resilient bunch of kids. I really believe they are going to do great things in high school and I look forward to everything they will accomplish in the future.

Unfortunately, I now need to provide everyone with the final details about our upcoming graduation ceremony. Due to the restrictions placed upon large group gatherings from the State of Illinois, we will be unable to hold a traditional graduation ceremony where everyone can come together as one large group in the gymnasium. With that being said, an alternative plan has been developed in order to provide you, and your graduate, with an opportunity to be recognized by the junior high and receive their diploma. Our plan is similar to what the high school did to recognize their graduates a couple of weeks ago. The specific details of this plan are as follows:

  •  Due to social distancing guidelines, we cannot have everyone come to the junior high at the same time. As a result, parents/students will need to sign up for one five minute time slot for their child to walk across the stage, receive their diploma, and be photographed by the school and/or family. These dates/times are as follows:

  • Thursday, June 18th, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

  • Friday, June 19th, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

  • Parents will need to email me at mworkman@lincoln27.net in order to reserve their time slot. Please open the link below which I will be using, and updating, daily in order for you to check what time slots are available before emailing me.

Also, please keep in mind that I will schedule time slots in the order I receive the requests through my email.  Do not call the school to schedule a time since there is no secretary present to take your calls at this time.  If there are any time conflicts with your request, you will receive a phone call from me directly in order to schedule a different time.

  •  When arriving at LJHS, you must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Arrive and park on Broadway St. a few minutes before your scheduled time.

  • Do not leave your vehicle until directed to do so by Mr. Bainter.

  • Wear your graduation gown.

  • No more than ten people are allowed per graduate to enter the school building.

  • Follow the Enter and Exit signs as well as any directives from school administration.

  • Walk across the stage in order to receive your diploma and be photographed.

  • All family members must stay in the designated area when/if taking pictures.

  • Exit and depart the school building quickly in order for others to arrive and participate.

Understand that this is completely voluntary. Just be aware that if you do not make arrangements to secure a time slot, then I will be mailing your child’s diploma/awards to your home address. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Please stay safe and congratulations to the LJHS Class of 2020.

Sincerely,

Michael Workman
